First the bad:
I had an appointment with an ophthalmologist today down on the coast. The purpose of this visit was to do a biometric study, the data from which to be used to fit with me with the new intraocular lens I am going to get when I have the cataract fixed in my already bad eye.
When I arrived a bit early, the receptionist told me the doctor was in surgery but should be with me shortly. Fine I said and pulled out my laptop, which I had brought along in case of such a delay.
TWO HOURS LATER I was still waiting, but the wife of the patient in surgery was then called back to the doctor's office, and five minutes later she and her husband, wearing those nifty big black sunshields, indeed leave. I pack away my computer, anticipating my call back to the exam rooms.
I wait, stare at the wall (there are no other patients in the clinic anymore, btw), wait some more. Finally I see the doctor walking down the hallway, but instead of calling me back, he says good-bye to the receptionist!
She reminds him that I am still waiting. He comes over, "Oh I am so sorry. But there is a problem. The laser I need for the study I don't have here at this office. So I will need to see you later today." I replied, "No, no can do, buddy. I have a LIFE, first of all, and a JOB, and about fifty other things I should be doing. AND I AM NOT at your beck and call, buster. AND why the *bleep* didn't somebody tell me this 2 and a half *bleeping* hours ago?!!!!!!
Well, maybe not in exactly those words, but I did reschedule for Friday morning, when I already had to be on the coast anyway. Because, frankly, I think the excuse was a ruse. Doc was all changed out of his white coat and on his way home for lunch, and could not have cared less that he had wasted my entire morning and the early part of the afternoon. ERRRRRRRR.
But now the good:
The bus back to the village pulled up right on schedule, but because of road works had to park on the other side of street, as if it were going to Málaga rather than to our village. It's been like this for a couple months now, so I knew to line up on the opposite side of the street.
From my seat, I could see an older couple at the regular bus stop having a discussion. The woman walked up the street a little to have a look at the front of the bus, presumably to see its destination sign. By this time, I figured out they were confused because the bus was in the wrong place, and I was certain they wanted to be on our bus but had no way of letting them know. And just then the bus pulled away.
Five minutes later we pull up at the first stop along the route. A few people get on, but the bus sits and waits. Another five minutes pass, and we are still parked at the stop. Then I see two more people climb on the bus. It was the couple I had seen earlier. They of course had wanted our bus, and when it didn't arrive at its regular stop at two o'clock, they went into the bus office to find out what was going on.
Mind you, the next bus doesn't leave the coast for our village until six hours later.
One of the employees called ahead to our bus to hold it while another employee drove the couple to meet us. How cool is that?!
Faith in humanity restored.
