So as I mentioned a couple days ago, two friends tagged me on this one. And geez, I found making such a list really hard. Plus, as I mentioned to my friends, I have issues with the "of all time" because I am always finding new (to me) music that I love. But alas, after much internal debate, here is my list:
1. Revolver by The Beatles: This was the only easy pick for me. As I noted the other day, The Yellow Submarine was the first ever favorite song I remember having as a little kid. Of course, it was the Sesame Street version but catchy and impression-making nevertheless.
2. Propeller by Guided by Voices: Like I could ever do such a list without a GBV mention. As my friends know, this is one of my all-time favorite bands. :-)
3. Here's Where The Strings Come In by Superchunk: When Big Jim is not around, this is my housecleaning soundtrack. I don't know that I could dust or clean the bathroom without Mac and the gang.
4. Tie (SORRY, but I am 40 and can bend the rules slightly if I'd
like)---I Feel Alright AND Shut Up and Die Like an Aviator by Steve
Earle (& the Dukes): His questionable acting on "The Wire" aside,
pretty much everything Steve does is awesome (hence my inability to
pick just one of his albums).
5. Infamous Angel by Iris DeMent: I have yet to get to the end of "Our Town" without sobbing. I love her.
After I originally posted the list on Facebook, I noticed that three of the six (Propeller, Here's Where The Strings Come In, and Shut Up and Die Like An Aviator) have aeronautical themes in either the album or song titles---not sure what, if anything, this means. But curious regardless.
The brave can post their own lists in the comments. :-)
hasta pronto,
